Success Tips: Changing Seasons
It seems to happen overnight.
The leaves are falling and crunching under our feet when we walk outside. The sky is not as blue. And it drastically throws us off when dusk starts to creep in earlier and earlier.
But that also means it’s time to break out the “pumpkin spice everything”, throw on a cozy sweater, and roast s’mores over a bonfire while drinking cider.
I ran across a quote by Kilroy J. Oldster that says, “Nature is never static. It is always changing. Everything is in a constant state of flux. Nothing endures. Everything is in the process of either coming into being or expiring.”
Isn’t that so true of people as well!? We are all in a constant state of flux. The only constant is change.
Just as we start to feel like we’ve fallen into a rhythm that’s working and comfortable, life shifts and adjusts...which means we have to as well.
Different seasons in life give us the opportunity to think about what success looks like in our new normal. It changes!
There is such a push in society to love your work. But a recent poll conducted by Gallop has uncovered that out of the world’s one billion full-time workers, only 15% of people are engaged at work.
That means that an astronomical 85% of people are unhappy in their jobs!
Don’t believe that your old definitions of success are relevant to the changing nature of your life. Embrace the moment and allow yourself to redefine success.
Working with old standards will keep you stuck in the cycle of dreading your job. Purpose, freedom, and joy come from being consistently aware of how changes affect your view of work.
So go throw on a cozy sweater, grab a warm drink, and spend time outside contemplating what the changing seasons in your life mean for your success and career.
If you’re wondering whether or not the changes in your life mean you should make a change in your job ... take this assessment. It will help you find out if you are aligned with this season’s purpose at work.
